I figured I should start now with all of my ideas and projects I want to get done before this baby comes and first on my list was Drake's big boy room! I knew I didn't want to have a theme for his room, so then I thought just do it around some colors but I also knew that I wanted an accent wall. So in researching online I found this idea and loved it. I knew it would take time, which it did, and patience, which it did, and that it would be worth it, which it was! So I posted all of the steps it took...
This was before we painted. A little background on this room, I would say it was our "junk drawer" room. It was where we put our DVD's (all 600 of them which are still in the middle of the room), luggage, Luv Sacs, sewing machine and craft stuff, rock band equipment, ect. Just junk in a spare room. But let me tell you I am sooo excited that is no more the case! (Now where to put all of that junk...?)
So this is before
Jordan and I painted the room grey and then chalk lined the rectangles for the diamonds. After that I measured each side of the rectangles to find the middle and marked them so I knew where to put the tape.
I taped every other one, sealed my tape with grey paint, and then painted the diamonds.
Then did the same for the next set.
This was the really time consuming part and where I found my dilemma. I originally wanted the black lines dashed. So I made a stencil and went to paint the dashes on but since my walls are textured it just bled under. So after a couple of different tries I decided to bag that idea and just do solid lines. So I got some quilters tape at a 1/4 in. But before all of that Jordan helped me to chalk line the diagonals of all the rectangles. Then I put down my quilters tape and used paint tape on each side of it to get a consistent line all the way down the wall. The taping is what took forever as well as sealing the tape because I had to use all 3 colors to do so. Once I was finally done with that part I could paint the black. Then do it all over again going the opposite direction.
And finally it was done! After some touch ups and then cleaning the wall of the chalk line it was finally done.
Now that the paint is done, on to the next project of building a bed!
Project #1 Complete!
